MEC Dube-Ncube Challenged To Reveal Who Is The Water Service Provider In Umzinyathi District

Oct 19, 2016 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal is challenging the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Nomusa Dube-Ncube to
reveal who is the owner of the company that provides water services in the uMzinyathi District Municipality.

“We are challenging MEC Dube-Ncube to make public the name of the person who owns the company that is providing water services in the UMzinyathi District because once that becomes public knowledge, people will know why the MEC is continuing to abuse her authority to usurp control of the Nquthu Local Municipality and thereafter the Umzinyathi District Municipality. We are aware that the ANC mayoral candidate in Nquthu is the husband of the MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi who was the mayor of the uMgungundlovu District Municipality and was kicked out by her own party, the ANC, in a vote of no confidence after there were allegation she had channelled R1.5 million of taxpayers’ money into the account of Lucky Moloi, a man she later married. Lucky Moloi was the former ANC secretary of the Inkosi Mbambatha region which incorporates Nqutu, Msinga, Umvoti and Endumeni. Now it makes sense as to why MEC Dube-Ncube is so hell-bent on ensuring that Lucky Moloi becomes the mayor of the Nquthu Municipality”, said IFP National Chairman, Mr Blessed Gwala MPL.

“Now we are told that MEC Dube-Ncube has implemented Section 139 (1) (b) of the Constitution of South Africa. This means that her Department will take over control of the Nquthu Municipality which will include all fiscal and financial management functions. This is in spite of a court ruling that the Nquthu Municipality should be constituted without any further delay. It is clear that Dube-Ncube is going all out to protect the business interests of the water service provider in uMzinyathi and in so doing she is denying the rights of the people of Nquthu and the entire district. It is shocking that business interests and cronyism takes precedence over service delivery and the will of the people. The voters have spoken through the ballot box but the ANC is using questionable means to corrupt councillors to support its hidden agenda. If Dube-Ncube has nothing to hide, she must reveal the name of the owner of the company that provides water services in the uMzinyathi District”, concluded Mr Gwala.
