The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal wants to know from the MEC of Agriculture, Cyril Xaba how he will recover the millions of Rands lost due to corruption in his Department.
“The MEC must give us clarity on how his department will recover the money lost in corruption amounting to R200m and the how the officials implicated will be brought to book. This report raises allegations of irregular expenditure, which in our view needs it be made public to the taxpayers of this country. We require accountability and severe punishment should be given to the corrupt.
We are distressed that corruption is only now being addressed when the ANC has its own internal scores to settle. We call on the MEC to release the report in the interests of accountability and transparency so that those fingered for wrongdoing can be brought to book. It is vital that the MEC does not protect political friends who may have been implicated in the report.
He must prove to the people of KZN that he is indeed serious about tackling corruption and mismanagement in his department. He must stick to the attitude of no tolerance, the resolve of strong treatment, the courage to scrape poison from the bones, and the measure of severe punishment” said IFP Spokesperson on Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Nhlanhla Msimango MPL.
“By releasing the report the MEC will begin to restore the credibility of the report itself, along with his own commitment to clean the department. Those involved must not only be named and shamed, but also be banned from working in the department or any other government entity in the future.
“The public outcry over this report is justifiable and residents of KwaZulu-Natal have a right to know the findings in full,” concluded Msimango.
