Media Advisory: Accreditation for Multi-Party National Convention on 16 and 17 August

Aug 8, 2023 | Press Releases

Joint Press Statement by the DA, IFP, FF Plus, ActionSA, UIM and SNP

On 16 and 17 August 2023, leaders from the DA, IFP, FF Plus, ActionSA, UIM and SNP will meet at Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park for a National Convention. The aim of the Convention is to attempt to negotiate a pre-election agreement to replace the ANC at the 2024 election with a new government that can move South Africa forward again.

Members of the media will have the opportunity to engage with the leaders of the six parties attending the National Convention during two press briefings. Both briefings will be led by the independent chairman of the National Convention, Professor William Gumede.

  • The first press briefing will take place prior to the start of the Convention on 16 August at 09:30.
  • The second press briefing is scheduled to take place after the end of the Convention on 17 August at 18:00 to communicate the progress made during deliberations.

Given the sensitivity and historic significance of these talks, and to protect the integrity of the process, the negotiations themselves will be conducted during closed sessions. During this period, all media queries will be handled by Professor Gumede, who will provide periodic media updates as required.

Members of the media wishing to attend the National Convention are requested to obtain accreditation by registering at the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdeOUuon9GlsC9_jm-mWjSMNOC8ATa_d2YJUfARNtdhZWKNkw/viewform.

The process of accreditation will be continuous, and media houses are welcome to accredit more than one journalist.
