Money For Food Parcels At Election Time But Not For Izinduna Salaries

Jun 25, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal is very perplexed by the claims made by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs that there are no funds available to pay the salaries for izinduna and it would appear that it is because the payments was introduced by Inkosi Nyanga Ngubane of the IFP.

“We are aware that if it was local government elections tomorrow the money for food parcels would be made available because the ANC would ensure that it tries to win support through crooked means, but because there are no elections taking place, no money is available to pay salaries for izinduna. Headmen play a major role in ensuring that traditional leaders are performing their duties accordingly in their clans. These people also have families to support like anyone else. This issue must be resolved without any further delay,” said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala,MPL.

“Corruption in South Africa has reached epidemic levels and threatens the lives of all South African citizens. Money lost due to government corruption could have been used to better the lives of all South African citizens, especially the poor including izinduna. It doesn’t make sense to say there is no money when there is not a day that goes by without reported cases of corruption in government departments and municipalities,” concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP demands that the government deals with corruption head on so that South Africans can be convinced if government says there is no money available to fulfil other demands.
