Mthonjaneni Victory Sends A Positive Message For The IFP

Nov 3, 2015 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party is excited after securing control of the Mthonjaneni Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal after the Department of Co-operative Governance withdrew its challenge.

“This victory for the IFP is a clear indication that our party is on the rise and that support for the party is growing. We were confident that we had followed due process and acquired the necessary support to take control of the municipality that was controlled by the unholy alliance between the ANC and the NFP. That alliance was doomed from the beginning and it has failed to provide services to our people in all the municipalities where the alliance existed. People of Mthonjaneni have now realised that they were better off while the IFP was in control of their municipality as they received services under a clean administration”, said IFP National Chairman Hon Blessed Gwala MPL.

“The fact that MEC for COGTA, Nomusa Dube-Ncube withdrew her challenge shows that her department did not have a case. The majority of the councillors at Mthonjaneni were clear that the municipality was dysfunctional and they decided to hand control to a party that believes in and practices clean governance while providing services to its citizens. This is a lesson for the MEC not to jump the gun and run to court using tax payer’s money and that she must be responsible in the way that she behaves. By challenging the will of the people without getting her facts right, the MEC has ended up with egg on her face. The IFP will ensure that the municipality is stabilised and that the administration will be well-managed in the interest of the people of Mthonjaneni. The IFP is ready to govern wherever the people want us to”, concluded Hon Gwala.
