Multi-party Charter Announces Plan to Build a Professional Public Service That Delivers to All

Apr 9, 2024 | Press Releases

Joint Media Advisory by the DA, IFP, FF Plus, ActionSA, ACDP, ISANCO, UIM, SNP, UCDP, Ekhethu and UNP

The foundation of a capable State is a professional public service, staffed with ethical, competent, qualified individuals who are independent of political mandates. Tragically, Government’s long-standing policy of cadre deployment, which promotes appointments within the public service based on political loyalty rather than merit, has hollowed out the State’s capacity and skills base, collapsing its ability to deliver services while increasing mismanagement and wasteful expenditure.

South Africa urgently needs a new government with a clear plan to depoliticize and professionalise the public service, enhancing skills, accountability, efficiency and value for money, to build a public service that delivers to all. On Wednesday 10 April 2024 the eleven parties of the Multi-Party Charter for South Africa will host a joint press conference to provide a Charter Government’s plan to do just that.

Members of the media are invited to attend. Party leaders will be available for interviews and photographs.
