The IFP welcomes the initiative by the KZN Department of Education to distribute free sanitary pads to needy school girls
“Whilst we welcome this initiative we want to caution principals, teachers and departmental officials involved in the procurement and distribution, to ensure that these sanitary towels do reach the most deserving students. These sanitary towels should not be sold or used as a bargaining ploy to get students to pay school fees in return for this government initiative. We also want to caution male teachers who might seek to use this free distribution to solicit sexual favours from young girls,” said Mrs Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa MPL, IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Education.
“The inability to purchase sanitary towels has resulted in many female students not attending school regularly every month. This has caused a decline in the education level in our province. Therefore it is our wish that this initiative will not only bring dignity to our young female learners but also ensure that they attend school regularly and thereby we will see an improvement in our education outputs. The IFP will monitor the procurement and the distribution of these sanitary towels,” concluded Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.
