The IFP believes that the upcoming appearance of President Cyril Ramaphosa at the State Capture Commission will be a watershed moment for our nation, which has been brought to its knees by deepening levels of corruption, mismanagement, and maladministration.
During the many years of alleged State Capture, President Ramaphosa had a front row seat as a Member of the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC), Deputy President of the ANC and the country, a role which included being leader of government business in Parliament.
It is therefore important that he unpacks his role, perspective, and assessment of the realities of State Capture.
President Ramaphosa has previously spoken of the “nine wasted years” and therefore this loaded statement needs to be unpacked in the context of State Capture. It is against the background of his previous pronouncements on the matter that the President owes South Africans not only insights but truthful answers about his action or inaction, when our country and its assets were clearly being “sold” to the highest bidder, as alleged by many witnesses which have appeared before Deputy Chief Justice and the Chairperson on the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, Judge Raymond Zondo, to date.
The President owes South Africans the whole truth and nothing but the truth. As we await the Presidents presentation before evidence leaders in the commission, it is imperative that he choose South Africa and all her people over protecting the ANC and its alleged corrupt leaders who never considered the dire consequences of their actions while blatantly looting the state coffers and stealing billions of rands from the poor for their own benefit.
