Protracted ANC Transition Talks Portray Lack of Decisive Leadership

Feb 7, 2018 | Press Releases

The IFP indeed applauded the postponement of SONA as this will give the ANC space to manage the transition that seems to refuse to reach the end.

It is however unfortunate that this whole saga takes the country back to the uncertainty and anxiety which prevailed prior to the ANC’s national conference in December in NASREC. These protracted negotiations on the transition from Mr. Jacob Zuma’s administration to the new one, have undone the positive atmosphere that emerged in the country immediately after the ANC conference and which was assisted by positive statements by the recently elected ANC President Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, which portrayed his leadership as a determined to deal decisively with all forms of corruption and criminality.

To the contrary, they have returned the country and the markets to the unnecessary uncertainty and anxiety, and they show the current leadership of the ANC as not able to muster enough courage to rise to the challenges before them however mountainous.

We believe the newly-elected leadership would do well to learn one or two things from the IFP about decisive leadership, which does not shy away from “taking the bull by its horns” when the situation demands such action.
