Hon. Speaker and Hon. Members.

The Public Service Commission is entrusted by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa with a responsibility that is fundamental and foundational to a stable democracy. It is established as an independent body, whose responsibility is to ensure the “maintenance of effective and efficient public administration and a high standard of professional ethics in the public service.”

These objectives form the bedrock of success and stability for any government and country. It is within this context therefore the IFP supports the proposed amendments to the Public Service Commission Act. We support them because we are convinced that they will contribute towards strengthening this body so that it executes its mandate effectively.

We support the amendments for South Africa cries out for a loyal, professional, diligent, honest and patriotic civil service that will put the good of the citizens above their own. At this juncture, I wish to state on behalf of the IFP that we are humbled that we bequeathed to South Africa a civil service that was ethical, loyal and professional when democracy dawned.

We hope that from these amendments will emerge a stronger and more efficient PSC.

I thank You
