Reverend Musa Zondi Sworn in As Member of Provincial Legislature

Oct 31, 2023 | Press Releases

The IFP, as the Official Opposition in the KZN Legislature, is pleased to welcome into the fold a new Member of the Provincial Legislature, Hon. Reverend Musa Zondi. He was sworn in today by the KZN Legislature Speaker, Hon. Nontembeko Boyce.

We are delighted that Hon. Rev. Zondi, a long serving IFP Member in good standing, is joining our KZN Caucus team.

He brings a wealth of experience in politics and in government. He is not a Johnny-come-lately. He will play an active role in holding the Executive to account through Debates, Motions, Parliamentary Questions and during Committee Meetings. Most provincial government departments are in shambles, are failing to improve their performance and have received qualified audit opinions from the Auditor-General for consecutive years.

The Office of the Premier has become a fertile breeding ground for corruption and seems hellbent on protecting those guilty of wrongdoing, as the recent SCOPA Report revealed that most investigation cases have not been finalised. The Office has also failed to release forensic investigation reports – which have been kept under wraps for many years – and has failed to implement lifestyle audits.

The IFP is currently on a journey of reclaiming back KwaZulu-Natal from the ANC, which has wreaked havoc in the Province. It has failed to provide competent leadership and has revealed its insatiable appetite for embezzling public funds. Examples include the R22 million spent by the ANC-led eThekwini Metro on statues from China, R4 million spent by the KZN Dept of Sports, Arts and Culture on TK Magic, owned by Mr Linda Sibiya, and the R28 million which was meant to be spent on hosting the SAMAs.

Its municipalities, such as eThekwini Metro, Msunduzi and uGu, are dysfunctional and service delivery has ground to halt. The ANC has failed flood victims, who are still staying in temporary shelters; provincial roads are riddled with potholes – which are more like ‘mine holes’; and road infrastructure projects remain incomplete due to incompetent contractors. For the first time in history, learners did not receive food in schools, after the ANC plunged the School Nutrition Programme into shambles.

As the Official Opposition – the ‘watchdog’ of the Provincial government – it is of paramount importance that the IFP has competent team of ‘soldiers’ who stand ready for ‘war’.

Hon. Rev Zondi is joining a team of soldiers who are ready for war.

Our responsibility is to apply a no-nonsense approach towards the provincial government, in order to safeguard the public purse. It is clear that there is no political will from the ruling party to address the challenges faced by the people in KZN.

2024 is the time for the people to use their vote to punish the incompetent ANC government and to usher in the tried, tested and competent IFP-led government.

We would like to wish Hon. Rev. Zondi everything of the best as he starts his new journey of contributing to the development of our province and country.
