IFP MANIFESTO LAUNCH
SANITARY PAD PLEDGE
South Africans at Large,
The Inkatha Freedom Party Caucus in Parliament has on numerous occasions and on numerous platforms called for the provision of free sanitary pads for school girls who cannot afford them.
We do so because we know that this Government can afford to provide free sanitary products to disadvantaged schools and learners. They spend millions on the provision of free condoms, even flavoured ones.
We call for the provision of free sanitary products because millions of school girls, nationwide, especially those in rural areas, miss a week of school each month simply because they cannot afford sanitary products.
Not only are they denied their constitutional right to education, but these young women are denied their right to dignity.
Today, therefore, we as the IFP announce with great pride that we will take the lead in the provision of free sanitary products to those who cannot access them. After 3 August 2016, wherever we govern, we will direct our Mayors to allocate a portion of the budget to ensure that schools that fall within our municipalities are assisted with free sanitary products.
We do so because we care for young women.
We do so because we believe in the upliftment of our communities and in providing better services and opportunities. We believe you deserve more.
