SARS Must Protect its Institutional Integrity

May 8, 2015 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party calls upon the South African Revenue Services(SARS) to continue with its investigations into allegations of gross misconduct, acts of impropriety and bringing the organisation’s name and reputation into disrepute by messrs Richer and Pillay.

IFP Chief Whip in Parliament, Mr Narend Singh, MP, said, ”It is of the utmost importance to the integrity of the institution of SARS that these investigations be continued. Simply sweeping the matters under the carpet will not do the revenue services any good. We call upon the Minister, in the interests of SARS, to continue with investigations into alleged acts of misconduct, impropriety by former SARS deputy commissioner, Ivan Pillay and strategic planning risk group executive, Peter Richer.”

“Golden handshakes and the withdrawal of investigations are not the way to deal with breaches of protocol, misconduct and impropriety, and especially not when you are a government entity. The Minister should not accept these resignations!” concluded Singh, MP.
