Statement by IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa Commemorating World Aids Day

Dec 1, 2020 | Press Releases

Today, we mark World Aids Day, commemorating all those who have lost their lives and who have sacrificed their loved ones as a result of the destructive spread of HIV/Aids in our country, and across the world.

We join the global community in support of the millions of families who have been torn apart by the loss of loved ones due to this disease.

Anyone diagnosed with HIV needs their family’s support more than ever. We believe that all efforts in advocating for faithfulness, abstinence and the use of condoms must be strengthened.

Abstinence is the only absolute guarantee against HIV/Aids – for both men and women. Faithfulness requires a sustained commitment from both partners. Condoms, used with every sexual encounter, protect both men and women.

Let us all unite in providing support to those who are living with HIV and the families of those who have passed on due to it. Let us unite in breaking the stigma of HIV and let us assist and support our communities and healthcare workers across the country in dealing with HIV/Aids in our family homes, and our healthcare facilities.

We commend and support all new research innovations that have proved successful in trial phases to protect our women, children and men from contracting or spreading HIV.

Our message is clear to all South Africans, as World Aids Day coincides with our fight and efforts during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign globally: only when we are united, can we fight the social ills in our society, and we can restore morality and family values if we work hard to do so.
