Teachers with Sexual Assault Accusations Against Them Should Not Be Allowed Into Classrooms

Jan 23, 2015 | Press Releases

The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal province should ensure that all those teachers with criminal records or charges of sexual assault involving pupils are not welcomed into schools.

“Teachers are employed to impart knowledge and be role models to our learners and not to use them for their sexual needs. We are very concerned about the safety of our children and are strongly against teachers who are sexually involved with learners. We cannot tolerate any form of abuse of innocent young children,” said IFP KZN Spokesperson on Education, Mrs Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa MPL.

“We will also want to emphasize that as schools have opened for the 2015 academic year, schools are learning and teaching platforms and not for teachers to fraternise with their learners. We were very saddened last year when we heard of a teacher who punished a learner sexually just because she failed a subject.

This is highly immoral and unacceptable. We will be monitoring what is going on at our schools across the province,” continued Mrs KaMadlopha-Mthethwa.

“The IFP calls on the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal to make sure that teachers who have abuse cases pending against them are not allowed to stand in front of learners. The department should play a vital role in ensuring the safety of learners in schools, and therefore those teachers should not be given a second chance in the teaching profession, because they are not serving in the best interest of our children but are destroying their future,” concluded Mrs KaMadlopha-Mthethwa.
