The IFP demands justice for the deaths of Amakhosi

Aug 25, 2020 | Press Releases

The IFP is deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Inkosi Nkanyiso Mncube, of Imbokodwebomvu Traditional Council in iNquthu, in the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal. Inkosi Mncube, together with his uncle, succumbed in a hail of bullets from unknown gunmen, who fired shots at the vehicle they were traveling in.

The IFP urges the police to leave no stone unturned in their investigation so that the perpetrators are brought to book. The untimely death of Inkosi Mncube has left the community of Imbokodwebomvu leaderless, and they deserve justice.

The IFP is disappointed and concerned that the Province has been plagued by murders of Amakhosi in recent years, and that no arrests have been made thus far. The slow pace of police intervention in ending the violent killings of Amakhosi – and other murders – is of serious concern for our Province.

The IFP still demands justice for the deaths of the following Amakhosi:

  • Inkosi Macala Gwala, of Nkwezela, south of Bulwer
  • Inkosi Linda Sono Mathonsi, of Mandeni
  • Inkosi Lushaba, of Port Shepstone
  • Inkosi Mbongeleni Zondi, of uMvoti
  • Inkosi V Gwala, of Donnybrook
  • Inkosi Nkosibeyiphika Johannes Mdluli, from uMkhanyakude
  • Inkosi Magongo Bhekinkosi Gwala, of Emaphephetheni in Ndwedwe

It is unfortunate that, to date, the above-mentioned murders remain unresolved. We remain hopeful that investigations into these cases, and the most recent case, will bear results. We call upon possible witnesses to come forward with any evidence that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Lastly, we would like to convey our sincere sympathies to the family, friends and the whole community of iMbokodwebomvu.

May his soul rest in peace!
