In his article “IFP heroine’s political fate already decided'” (Business Day: 26 October 2010) Sibongakonke Shoba makes a number of unsubstantiated and erroneous claims about the IFP, which need to be corrected.
Shoba, referring the IFP’s upcoming National Council meeting this weekend, quotes me as saying that “no action would be taken without her (the IFP National Chairperson Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi’s) presence”.
This is not the truth.
I was instead commenting on the fact that the IFP’s National Chairperson has on several occasions now failed to attend Party meetings, either submitting sick notes or lawyers’ letters excusing her from her Party responsibilities.
It is with this in mind, that I had commented that the Party feels that it is important to finalise the enquiry into the conduct of our National Chairperson, and that her presence would assist the process as it will afford her the opportunity to clear her name.
Furthermore, the media’s baseless allegation that the IFP has already decided what the outcome of this weekend’s National Council will be, demonstrates the media’s clear prejudice and bias against the National Council and a lack of understanding about the basics of politics. This weekend’s National Council will be an internal IFP discussion, the outcome of which cannot be predicted. Any suggestion to the contrary, is nothing more than mischievous speculation, aimed at discrediting the IFP and its leadership.
