Dear Sir:
PEOPLE MUST NOT BE FED WITH THE WRONG INFO WHEN DEALING WITH HIV/AIDS
The AIDS conference currently taking place at Durban’s International Convention Centre (ICC), revealed some rather sad and shocking information through the speakers.
It is sad to know that the number of people infected with HIV/AIDS is still very high. According to one of the Speakers quoting from current statistics, we have two million people on ARV treatment. It is clear that although this is the number of people on ARV treatment a large number is affected however not on treatment.
We were amazed to find out that the report tabled by Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in Durban during the week was wrong. TAC claims that the number of people with HIV/AIDs has gone down when in actual fact about 6,4 million people are affected.
Another concern of the IFP is the circumcision machines that the government is planning to purchase, one wonders how will be used to cater for these machines. We see no need for a change in machinery in this Province since we have not encountered any problems with the current machines.
Buying new circumcision machinery will only be a waste in this Province, while we can use those funds to cover other areas. It is only fair that I, as a Member of the Health Portfolio and Official Opposition in the Province, I suggest that the MEC reconsiders this move.
