Subject:LETTER TO THE EDITOR: BY PRINCE MANGOSUTHU BUTHELEZI MP

I have taken note of reports in your paper that NFP leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi has donated a house to my son, Themba Buthelezi. One can appreciate the gesture. But it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth that this “act of kindness” is so politically tainted that it comes across as an insult.

The NFP is targeting my family to score cheap political points. They know that Themba Buthelezi is not in a position to refuse assistance.
By preying on his vulnerability, Mrs Magwaza-Msibi has denied him his dignity. How many journalists did she invite to witness the handover?
This is dirty politics at its worst.

I have often remarked that my family is not wealthy. We are ordinary people. In spite of this, I assist people financially, both family and strangers, on a daily basis. Yet, unlike Mrs kaMagwaza-Msibi, I do not feel the need to publicize my good deeds.

As a leader, I know that it is my responsibility to help people in need. And as a Christian, I always heed the Bible’s warning in Matthew 6:1 that says, “Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
