The IFP has challenged the uMkhanyakude District Mayor, Jeff Vilane to tell the public why the Chief Financial Officer was suspended if everything is running smooth in the municipality.
“The Mayor was gloating at the press conference and accusing us of spreading lies about the district municipality. But we ask ourselves why the Chief Financial Officer was suspended after that mayor denied that there is rot in his municipality. The mayor must come clean with the truth,” said IFP Leaders in the KZN Legislsature, Mr Blessed Gwala.
“Furthermore, we are sick and tired of MEC Dube-Ncube’s lack of leadership in addressing the issues of uMkhanyakude District. She has failed dismally to attend to the crisis reported in this municipality. Now we have no option but to take up this matter with Public Protector to investigate because the MEC seems to be protecting the ANC and sweep corruption under the carpet. By her actions the MEC is denying uMkhanyakude residents the right to know the extent of the corrupt activities and failures of the municipality,” continued Mr Gwala.
“The uMkhanyakude District Mayor must tell the people in which areas water tankers are allocated. People need to know what happened to the R15-million worth of water pipes that were found dumped on the roadside in the Emakhonyeni area. If those pipes were ordered during the IFP administration, the project should have continued under the new administration and people would now have water. But the Vilane administration has failed the people of uMkhanyakude. Why people in Jozini are still suffering due to lack of water while there is the Jozini Dam? The mayor must stop playing cheap politics and he must clean up the mess in his house before labelling the IFP as failures,” concluded Mr Gwala.
The IFP will interrogate MEC Dube-Ncube in the Legislature in order to get suitable answers about her inept attitude of failing to address the uMkhanyakude District crisis.
